Dental Implants

Missing teeth do more than create a negative impression - they lead to more severe complications if left untreated. In addition, every missing tooth you have increases your risk for decay, infection and more teeth being lost in the future. Dental implants offer a permanent, non-removable solution to replacing a missing tooth.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are mini biocompatible screws inserted into the jaw that act as replacement tooth roots. They are made of high-quality materials and provide a stable structure for an implant crown that fits with the rest of your teeth.

Dental implants are painless, safe, secure and practical, with a minimal recovery time of two to three months, depending on your oral health.

What does the procedure involve?

Our approach is to consider each case and client individually to assess specific needs or requirements. For example, you may require initial tooth removal or further examination before implant surgery.

We will then implant the titanium screw into the jaw where the tooth is missing in a surgical procedure. The implant is left to heal and further bonds into the jawbone.

Once the jaw has completely healed, a connector post known as an abutment is attached to the screw, and the new personalised crown is fixed on top. Next, our practitioner takes an impression of your existing teeth and bite to create a tooth or teeth that match in shape, size, and colour to make the crown.

We prefer using the Nobel Biocare system when performing implant placements but can restore any implant for your convenience.

Benefits of dental implants

Dental implants present a durable and effective solution to restoring your natural smile, but beyond this, they also contribute to your oral health in many ways:

  • Long-term tooth protection
  • Improved speech
  • Better chewing function
  • Protect the bone structure of the jaw
  • Improved overall oral health
  • Decreased tooth sensitivity
  • Function as normal teeth

Are dental implants for everyone?

Healthy gums and bones are crucial for dental implants. However, during your consultation, we will assess whether you are an ideal candidate for implants. We will lookout for the following:

  • Oral health and hygiene
  • Chronic illness
  • Smoking
  • The location of nerves in the jaw

At Melrose Dental, we are committed to educating patients every step of the way during their treatments.

Dental implants vs dentures

If you have recently lost a tooth or teeth, you may be unsure of the best treatment direction and confused between dental implants and dentures.

Dentures are more affordable than implants but have a shorter lifespan and can easily be damaged. In comparison, dental implants are permanent and much more convenient.

If you have missing teeth, contact us for a consultation, and our expert practitioners will recommend a personalised treatment plan.
